There is a big difference between personal safety and self defense, and it is important to understand just what those differences are and what they mean to you.
Personal safety means not putting yourself into a bad situation to begin with, or taking measures to protect yourself should something bad happen to you. Applying good personal safety habits means you have prepared yourself for the worst, and are ready to deal with it. Some examples of good personal safety habits include:
1. Avoid Dangerous Situations
Good personal safety means you do not traverse dark parking lots late at night, nor do you walk alone down dark streets or through alleys. You park under a street light and stay in well populated areas. You are constantly aware of your surroundings and heed your instincts when they tell you something is amiss.
2. Mentally Prepare Yourself
You consider the possibilities of potential attack and how you would deal with it in various situations. You remain aware of where you would run for help, who you would call, and how you would fight. You have not actually had to do it yet, but you have run several “what if” scenarios through your mind. You may have even taken a self defense class, to better prepare yourself for the possibility you may someday need to defend yourself.
Engaging in Self Defense
If you need to resort to self defense, that means all other attempts at protecting yourself have failed and you now must fight – potentially for your life. In order to give you the best chances for escape, carry a personal protection weapon with you. After all, you can never be too prepared.
A security spray such as Mace or pepper spray will allow you to temporarily blind or stun your attacker so you can make your escape. The effects are immediate and will last for some time.
A personal taser such as the Taser M 18 or Taser C2 provide compact yet very powerful personal protection through a high voltage electrical charge that will disable and disorient your attacker.
Personal alarms such as the sport strobe light alarm or ear piercing screecher alarm not only draw attention to you but will stun and frighten your attacker.
Your best defense, of course, is to not need to resort to self-defense.

Michigan has been one of the states identified as not allowing its residents to carry a personal safety spray such as pepper spray or tear gas. That has all changed now with a series of Mace brand safety sprays in a Michigan approved formula. Michigan residents can now choose to carry safety spray for their personal protection just as most of the rest of the nation has been able to.
Mace Pepper Spray
Mace Michigan Formula Pepper Gard is a powerful, double-action security spray that combines the knock-down power of pepper spray with a UV dye that will allow police to quickly and easily identify any assailant it is used on. Using safety sprays that contain the UV dye are extremely helpful in allowing law enforcement to identify and capture aggressive, dangerous, or confrontational people.
Mace Double Action Tear Gas
The other option in personal security spray approved for Michigan residents is the Mace Double Action Tear Gas. It also contains the helpful UV dye for marking your aggressor, but in this product it is combined with the crippling power of chemical tear gas. Before Mace began developing a wide range of security sprays, chemical tear gas was simply known as mace.
The difference between mace and pepper spray is in the active ingredient. Pepper spray is a natural type of security spray, made from the liquid extracts of hot peppers. Somewhat oily in nature, pepper spray does not easily wash off, but its effects will eventually disappear as the product slowly evaporates.
Mace is a chemical tearing agent contained in a volatile carrier base that causes intense burning of the eyes as well as skin irritation. The active chemical in mace security spray is particulate, meaning the carrier contains bits of the chemical. These cling to the face of the attacker, and the chemical does not evaporate. It must be washed completely from the skin or else rubbing the area can re-activate the effects.
Either of these security sprays are effective deterrents that now offer a means of personal protection from attackers for the residents of Michigan.

The Taser C2 and Advanced Taser M-18 use Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) technology, which is what makes them so effective as personal protection devices.
Stunning the body with force
EMD technology delivers an 18 to 26 watt electrical charge to the body via wires that are attached to metal probes. The probes strike the attacker, and the high voltage electrical charge overrides the assailant’s central nervous system, allowing the device to directly control the skeletal muscles. When applied, both the Taser C2 and Advanced Taser M-18 will cause immediate, uncontrollable contractions of the muscles, physically incapacitating the individual.
C2 TASER

Due to EMD technology, the Taser C2 and Advanced Taser M-18 are both effective against nearly everyone, regardless of their tolerance for pain. This technology was designed to overcome those who are extremely focused, highly tolerant of pain, psychologically insane, under the influence of controlled substances, or elite combatants.
The advantages of the personal taser include an effectiveness rating of 100%, with the stopping ability greater than that of a 9mm handgun. This means you have an extremely powerful weapon at your disposal for use in situations where your personal safety is at risk.
Power that will not permanently injure
The effects of the Taser C2 or Advanced Taser M-18 will last long enough for you to make a hasty retreat and locate help, but they will not cause any permanent damage to an assailant. While powerful, the taser’s EMD technology will not cause permanent harm to nerves, muscles, or any other part of the body.
The taser is even safe to use on heart patients wearing cardiac pacemakers. Cardiac ventricular fibrillation, where the heart begins to “vibrate” erratically without maintaining a steady beat, occurs when anywhere from 10 to 50 joules of electricity are applied to it. The taser only emits a current of 0.3 joules, putting it well below the safety threshold. The taser will not interrupt a pacemaker signal, nor will it interfere with normal heart function.
M-18 TASER

Both the Taser C2 and the Advanced Taser M-18 are powerful personal protection devices that will enable you to disable and disorient any attacker, regardless of his size or physical strength. This gives you the best possible opportunity for escape.

Carrying a personal safety device increases your chances of defeating an attacker and getting away unharmed. Not only do these powerful devices disable an attacker in a variety of ways, but they also psychologically stun him as well. An attacker predicts how you will behave if attacked, and turning the tables on him using a personal protection weapon will certainly take him by surprise, adding to the physical effects of whichever type of device you choose.
Flashlights with a Hidden Purpose
There are several devices that appear to be a flashlight, and in fact are functional as such, but contain cleverly disguised surprises for your attacker.
The Large Multi-Purpose Flashlight appears to be any other typical flashlight, only this one includes an ear piercing screecher alarm and a powerful stun gun. This innocent-looking flashlight will deliver a high voltage blow to your attacker, driving him away from you and giving you the chance to run to safety.
A Small Stun/Alarm Flashlight serves the same purpose in a more compact casing.
Personal Safety Spray in Drag
Lipstick Pepper Spray is a clever way to disguise the powerful and immediate effects of a safety spray. This ingenious little device hides nicely in a pocket or purse, and a shot of its hidden pepper spray into your attacker’s face will make him pucker up in pain while you run away. Lipstick Pepper Spray comes in a variety of jewel colored cases to fit your personal style without betraying the burning surprise that is hidden inside. These safety sprays are perfect for any woman who wishes to ensure her personal security without carrying around a bulky weapon.
A Cell Phone Stinger
The Cell Phone Stun Gun looks like a real phone, yet instead of making calls it makes an attacker cry when he gets hit with powerful electrical voltage. A detachable wrist strap disables the stun gun when the pieces become separated, ensuring this compact and powerful device cannot be used against you should it fall into the wrong hands.
All of these small, portable security devices appear to be everyday objects, but they pack a serious whallop against any would-be attacker. Personal protection does not need to be bulky or inconvenient, as evidenced by these stylish yet powerful devices.

Burglars are cowards. They may want to steal your valuables, but they do not want confrontation. That is why they watch homes for days on end, trying to figure out the behaviors of the occupants. They want to steal from you when you are not home to confront them.
In order to defeat the burglar, you need devices that will draw attention to him, causing the cowardly crook to run away in shame, rather than continue his crime. There are several products you can buy to arm your home so it can protect itself while you are away.
Wireless Alarms
Wireless alarms are inexpensive to buy and easy to install. They offer you the same protections of more expensive, hard wired alarm systems at a fraction of the price. Like expensive alarms, they utilize infrared technology to detect movement inside the home.
Magnetic Door and Window Alarms
Any magnetic door and window alarm is easy to install. It monitors magnetic affinity between the piece installed on the frame and the other piece installed on the door or window pane. If the connection is broken, the alarm will sound. These are great for sliding doors and windows that are otherwise difficult to protect.
Glass Breakage Alarm
Many of us fear a burglar will just break a window to get inside our homes. Now you can prevent such a thing from happening to your home with a glass breakage alarm. This alarm will monitor vibrations and sound an ear piercing noise as soon as the glass begins to shake, scaring your burglar away.
Dual Function Door Security Bar
The handy dual function door security bar serves double duty protecting your home from intruders. It can be used to block a sliding door, or placed under a doorknob to prevent the door from being opened. It also compacts down to fit in a suitcase, and can be used to provide you with additional room security whenever you travel.
By taking just a few precautions and adding personal safety devices to your home that will alarm when activated, you can scare off the cowardly burglar so he runs from your neighborhood – or at least picks on someone else.

One of the best pieces of advice for preventing a rape is to not put yourself in a poor position to begin with. Do not go into dark or deserted areas alone, and if you are out after dark, always have a friend with you. If you do find yourself in such places, make sure you carry a personal protection device such as a personal taser, an ear piercing screecher alarm, a compact and powerful stun gun, or a security spray such as Mace or pepper spray.
Keeping Your Home Safe
The latest trend in sexual attacks against women is home invasions. They can occur whether a woman is home alone, or with friends. In order to prevent such attacks, do not answer the door if someone you do not know rings the bell, no matter how many people are occupying your house.
Defending Yourself against Rape
If you do find yourself confronted by an attacker, the best thing you can do is run. Head for the nearest place of safety, and make a lot of noise while you are getting there. The more commotion you make, the greater the chances of scaring off an attacker. He does not want attention drawn to him. Use a personal alarm if you have one, and head as quickly as you can to any open business, or to a residence where it appears someone is home.
Taking Preventative Measures
Bolster your confidence in being able to escape by attending self defense classes. Taking a dry run through attack situations gives you the confidence you need to successfully escape. It will also condition you to make the correct responses in a dangerous situation, and increase your ability to respond under stress.
Finally, arm yourself. There are many non-lethal self defense weapons on the market, such as pepper spray or tasers that can be used to disable an attacker and give you a window of opportunity to escape. Remember, in any attack, your goal is to thwart your attacker in such a way that you have a chance to flee and run towards safety, so use any and all weapons you have available to you in order to ensure your safety and survival.

Stalkers are terrifying. They have intense focus on their victims and behave mindlessly of the law or potential consequences of their behavior. Stalkers come in all forms, from the nutcase you unintentionally anger on the street to a disturbed neighbor to a jealous spouse. The most disturbing stalkers are the ones you know.
Whenever you find yourself the victim of a stalker, the best thing you can do is to get away from them. Unfortunately, some stalkers follow victims to their places of employment, to friends’ homes, and when the victims run errands such as shopping. They can appear anywhere, and their behavior is always a wild card.
Protecting Yourself
The first thing you should do if you suspect you are being stalked is file a police report. You may even be able to have a restraining order issued against the person by your local court. These things give you tools that can lead to the stalkers eventual arrest or incarceration, but they cannot happen if you do not follow through.
Be Pro-active in Your Safety
Take measures to protect yourself as well. Invest in a home alarm, which need not be expensive. Wireless alarms or infrared technology that detects motion will warn you if someone tries to enter your home. Magnetic door and window alarms will sound if someone tries to open a door or attempts to break glass. These devices are important because they will scare your stalker away if he tries to get into your home. You can also install a TeleSpy telephone, which can be programmed to call your cell phone or work number if it detects motion in your home while you are away. A microphone allows you to listen to what is happening inside your home before you notify police.
Carry a compact yet powerful personal protection device with you, such as a personal taser, a disabling security spray, or a cleverly disguised stun gun such as the cell phone stun gun. High voltage security devices allow you to protect yourself so you can get away and call for help.

In the movies, the victim of an attack usually manages to get away. She uses a tactically placed kick or clubs the attacker with an everyday object she happens to have in her hands, and escapes just in the nick of time.
Unfortunately, it is not always so simple in real life attacks. The attacker expects there to be resistance from the victim, and he is prepared to deal with it. In order to exercise true self defense, though, the victim should take all precautions to avoid possible confrontation from an attacker, then fight back heartily only when absolutely necessary.
Escape is Your Best Line of Defense
Rather than get entangled in a physical confrontation with someone who is charged up on alcohol, drugs, or adrenaline, it is far safer and easier to try to get away. Trust your instincts, and if they tell you to get out of a certain area, do so immediately. Dark parking lots and back alleys are two such places you do not want to traverse alone.
Learn Self Defense
Take a class that teaches you how to react properly to dangerous situations by quickly sizing them up and taking the appropriate action. You can learn how to break an attacker’s hold or how to catch him off guard. These give you an even greater chance for making an escape.
If all Else Fails, Fight
If everything else fails and you fall victim to an attack, fight. Do not play fair, though – fight to win. Try to hurt your attacker. You will have even greater success if you carry a personal safety weapon with you, such as a high voltage yet compact personal taser or a powerful stun gun. Small and portable yet ear piercing screecher alarms draw attention to you and may scare off an attacker. A safety spray such as pepper spray is yet another powerful weapon that may allow you disable your attacker long enough to get away.
As soon as your attacker lets go of you or backs away, run to safety and immediately notify the police.

Whether you live in a big city or a small town, the importance of being streetwise cannot be understated. It seems that criminal violence is reaching out into every community these days, big or small. By adopting an active awareness of your surroundings and a defensive mindset, you can keep yourself out of many potentially dangerous situations. If you are confronted by a potential attacker, there are a variety of personal protection devices that are small, compact, and powerful that can help you fend off a criminal.
Avoid dark parking lots and isolated places. If you must transit through such areas, consider carrying a personal protection device such as an ear piercing screecher alarm, which will signal for help and deafen an attacker at the same time. Or carry a concealable yet legal personal defense weapon such as a safety spray like Mace or pepper spray, a personal Taser, or a stun gun. These weapons are compact yet powerful, allowing you to instantly disable an attacker and run towards safety.
Remain Constantly Vigilant
Criminals are looking for an easy target, so do not become one. If possible, travel with friends, because there is safety in numbers. If you are alone, project an attitude of confidence, as if you are ready to take on anyone who challenges you. Always be aware of your surroundings, and take notice of anyone who appears out of place or seems to be loitering. Finally, always be aware of the nearest places you could run to for help if you needed it.
If you should be confronted by an attacker, your first line of defense may be to cooperate. If all he wants is your money, hand it over. No amount of money is worth jeopardizing your personal safety. If, however, it appears the confrontation is going to turn physical, fight vigorously to defend yourself.
This is where personal alarms come into play. Ear piercing screecher alarms are compact and portable, and will signal for help as well as scare off the attacker. A security spray such as pepper spray will temporarily blind your attacker, allowing you to run to safety, and a personal Taser will stun your attacker into submission.
Remember, the best form of defense is awareness, but if push comes to shove, there are many valuable personal protection devices that can help you escape and get to safety.

One of the most effective personal protection devices available is a security spray, such as pepper spray or Mace. Security spray is compact, easy to carry, easy to conceal, and legal to possess almost everywhere. When packed properly, you can even fly with a safety spray provided it is in your checked luggage.
If you need to use your safety spray against an attacker, the results should bring him to his knees fairly quickly. Once you apply the security spray to the attacker’s face, his eyes should slam shut. They will feel like they are on fire. Any exposed skin that has been sprayed will begin to burn and may turn red, and the airborne particles will make your attacker hack and cough. Do not worry, though – none of the effects of any personal security spray are permanent. They will subside, but only after you have made a hasty retreat.
Clever Ways to Carry Your Security Spray
The most important thing to remember with a security spray is to actually carry it with you. Safety spray cannot help you if you leave it at home.
Security sprays are packaged in compact canisters designed for discretion, yet big enough to pack a punch. The smallest canisters of safety spray are designed to attach to a keychain. Larger ones can be clipped on your waistband and hidden beneath a shirt or jacket. These insure you have your safety spray close at hand at all times.
More ingenious ways to carry security spray is with one of the devices disguised as an everyday object, such as the PepperPAGER. It contains two canisters of pepper spray which deploy simultaneously, giving your attacker a double dose of disabling safety spray.
A clever way for women to carry security spray is the compact Lipstick Pepper Spray. Disguised as a common tube of lipstick, this little device allows you to blast your attacker from as much as 10 feet away.
For the fitness-minded, the Hot Walkers are one-pound weights that each conceals a canister of powerful 10 percent pepper spray.
There are many convenient ways to carry personal safety spray in a variety of innocent-looking packages, yet these small but powerful devices will allow you to leave your attacker in tears while you escape.
